Oral health related unmet needs of a university students based on dental hygiene process of care and human need theory

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze the oral health related unmet need based on dental hygiene process of care in one university students. Subjects were 100 university students attended dental hygiene care program at a university. We analysed general characteristics and oral health related knowledge, attitude and behavior of the subjects, and well trained dental hygiene students was diagnosed about the oral health related unmet needs based on human need theory. Chi-square test, independent t-test were conducted using SPSS statistical program version 20.0. The ¡®Responsibility for oral health¡¯ was unmet in most(77.0%), on the other hand unmet need about ¡®Skin and mucous membrane¡¯ was not presented because the subjects were comparative young group. There was no significant differences by general characteristics. It is recommended analyze the subjects¡¯ oral health status on the basis of a theoretical framework, the clinical research in the field of dental hygiene is expected to be carried out.
